Surface to Air have designed a Kings of Leon capsule collection, I’m a big fan of both but this is pretty cringeworthy isn’t it? and more than a bit late. Theres nothing especially wrong with any of the pieces individually (the boots are a bit rough), I just think the idea of doing a capsule specifically based on a band allowing us to get the KoL look is rubbish. Its fair to say, Surface to Air – we expect more!
In the Uk highstreet brands, lets focus on Topman, have been selling the off the rail indie look for the best part of the decade. With the popularity of the strokes and the libertines at the start of the noughties the highstreet was quick to react offering us the rock n roll look for less. No longer would you have to trawl the markets or vintage shops for the perfect black leather or wear your girlfriends jeans you could go to topman and buy it all off one manequin. Cue the hords of mini indenti-kit Petes.
Its easy and in places fair to be cynical about this however I’m not gonna knock Topman, I think they do what they do very well. They have to be applauded for doing good basics along with more forward thinking styling as well as interesting collaborations and supporting up and coming talent through there MAN project. There price – quality balance make them very good value.
One other thing, a little plea to Mr Green, Could you please open a sligthly older, slightly better quality but still style and fashion lead, mid market menswear store that me and my work mate john could come and work for? That would be great cheers.
