Oh God, is there anything more dull than the modern day tour-documentary? Five minute’s of self-congratulating backstage ‘antics’ cobbled together to help sell the super-special-limited-collector’s edition of Muse’s latest opus. Boring! When the tour in question is 2008′s ‘The Songs of David Byrne and Brian Eno’, however, it’s rightly time to get excited. Having already made the second best concert film ever made, Stop Making Sense, (the first is The Band’s The Last Waltz!), this new film, entitled Ride, Rise, Roar, contains footage of rehearsals, the shows and, yes, behind the scenes stuff. I didn’t see the London show of this tour, but my girlfriend did and she said it was bloody amazing, so this film should be a real treat. It premieres in March at SXSW, along with The White Stripes documentary – another one to look out for perhaps.

I want a department of silly and I’d LOVE to work for Paul Smith. He must be the coolest, nicest man in fashion, you can imagine him as a kind of Rufus character, coming back from the future to help young designers sustain a successful career. Also up there with David Attenborough for coolest Dad/Grandpa award.

Aids Graffiti HD from stephane pivron on Vimeo.

This is how to engage a younger audience on a taboo subject such as safe sex. Bring it down to a level they all know too well – toilet graffiti and dirty drawings!

Although it’s obviously aimed at men of all ages, TBWA (Paris) have brilliantly produced this ad for French TV in an engaging, contemporary way that gets across the all important message… strap it up and you’ll get LAID!

Without going into too much depth, the detailed ‘interactions’ between the two characters towards the end are hilarious. Of course this is far too lewd to see the light of day on a British TV screen so big up to the Internet viral.

I have to admit ceramics is not something I usually get excited about, but I think this series, Drawn In Clay, by Dutch designers Atelier NL is amazing. Winners of a Re:vision design award from Modern Painters magazine, the pieces are made from different clays taken from a selection of Dutch farms from the Noordoostpolder region, with each coded accordingly. Hand made, the traditional process and contemporary design combine creating simple, beautiful objects. I love the idea that the vessels are made from the same soil as the produce they carry.  The presentation is clearly excellent and obviously it is no mistake that the photos are reminiscent of Vermeer paintings. via veryverybeautiful. more photos after the jump.

Ryan McGinley is at it again, this time shooting these dope portraits of various US winter Olympians for the NY times. I’ve only just stumbled across them but with the Vancouver games still in full swing they are still very relevant. Like with pretty much all of his work, McGinley has an incredible knack of creating a warmth in his photos that makes them seem quite poetic.

This guy has been killing it for a while now. It’s pretty deep and the kind of music that could easily veer into very boring territory but there is a certain energy to MCDE’s productions that turns my head every time. This is his new remix for Toby Tobias which, in his own words, is “inspired by the best outdoor gigs last year, and the spirit of 70s (loft) disco.. made for breezy summernights, open air, near the beach, beautiful people around you, and the dj spinning slow sexy jams like this.”

Short & Sweet is London’s only weekly short film evening. It’s been running for nearly four years and is deservedly popular – showcasing the very best in short films both old and new, from animation to live action, to music videos from both new talent and established directors. It’s free so grab a drink and cosy up on a sofa – it’s a perfect Monday night out after a heavy weekend.

Short & Sweet is on every Monday from 6.30, down at cafe 1001 on brick lane.

‘Frank and Ditta Hoeber’s Philadelphia loft is all about display. The architectural and design firm behind the space, Qb3 Design, wanted to create a “silent background” within which the couple could feature their book collection, art and objects. The building was originally a window factory from the early 1900’s, and has maintained this industrial feel post renovation.’
I could handle this, it’s a bit on the white side for me but maybe with a bit more art and a few battered rugs, some plants and a coloured dog (white cat? really) it would feel pretty homely. I’d move it to London, don’t much fancy living in Philadelphia but the space and light would be a dream. Via Remodelista & loftlife, more pics after the jump.

If you do one thing today make sure it is to have a go on this. Koka Kaka have brilliantly produce this interactive website to show off Wrangler’s latest Blue Bell collection.

I wont rant on too much but I never would have thought undressing a man while making him dance to a beat could be such a wicked experience… don’t judge me until you’ve had a go.

All in all an incredible way to show off a collection.
