Bit of an unusual subject matter by Amir Zaki but what amazing photos this series of lifeguard towers make. Typology photography at its best… DOPE!

Came across this nice series by Matt Logue entitled ‘Empty L.A‘. Not sure how he’s managed to shoot all of these fairly large landscapes completely deserted, but the 28-days-later-esque feel about them is really nice for cityscape photographs.
A few more after the jump.
A good friend of mine, Connie Wright, knitted these amazing Nike shoes in collaboration with THIS IS STUDIO for Nike 78 – a project initiated by Paul Jenkins in which he asked various creatives to challenge the function of a pair of Nike shoes.
Quite possibly a biased opinion but for me these are fo’ sho’ the best creation on show, and with around 100 hours spent knitting no doubt the pair with most effort put into them. Check some other cool ones after the jump or hit up the online gallery for other all the other outcomes.
A very talented friend of mine has a ‘two for the price of one’ exhibition opening tonight down at The Haggerston’s new gallery space; The Drawers Gallery. With a range of quirky doodles and strange sculptures on show there will no doubt be plenty to warrant a trip down. Show runs until Tue 22nd June
A friend sent me this wicked image he took down at Collect 2010 – an art fair for contemporary objects put on by the Craft Council. Unfortunately the fair has finished now but this really nice idea by Caroline Broadhead was apparently one of a number of great things at the fair. One to pop in the diary for next year me thinks. Cheers Marc!
I’m liking the work of street artist Alex Farto, aka Vhils. I saw the piece of his that’s down just off Brick Lane a while ago but I’ve only just discovered the man behind the art. While he works with many materials across various mediums I personally love his wall series in which he uses just the decayed and perished parts of the plaster as a means to create a portrait. In particular the more subtle executions like the second example above. Check some more after the jump.
A while ago I posted about an amazing advert in which Robert Carlyle brilliantly tells the story of Johnnie Walker Scotch Whisky as part of the brands new advertising campaign by BBH London – If you didn’t see it that then make sure you check it out.
The little birdie that showed me that back then gave me a heads up on the latest part of the campaign that continues the walking theme. BBH have created a series of brilliant audio podcasts entitled ‘Walking With Giants’, in which a number of iconic figures walk in places that are significant to them, telling their own inspiring stories.
I’ve only managed to listen to a couple of them so far but both have had me hooked, in particular the one above by Bobby Carlyle (click here). They’re both humbly fascinating and inspiring, providing the perfect lunch time listening!
Check the rest of them out here. Thanks Maddogg for the tip!
I met Jane Stockdale a few years ago when she came in to the studio I worked at at the time to show her photos. Since then she has quickly elevated herself to one of the best documentary photographers around these parts.
As a photographer she has a breathtaking ability to not only get herself in places and situations that seem near impossible and potentially life threatening, but also dig out a perfect shot that captures the mood and feeling of the environment before her.
When I first met her I was blown away by her photos and stories and nothing has changed today. I caught up with her in between her busy schedule to ask her a few questions.
Hi Jane. Tell us a little about yourself and how you got to where you are now.
I live in London, studied in Edinburgh and am from a little town in the north of Scotland. I moved to the states when I was 16 to go to high school in New Jersey, started photographing bands on my dads canon AE1-program and have pretty much been taking photos ever since.

OWTIC is stoked to announce image blogger Them Thangs, aka Justin Blyth, will be guest posting all this week. We tracked him down to find out a bit more about the man behind the pictures and what a top bloke he turned out to be. We’ve also asked him to take five of our categories, do what he does best and choose some great images, along with an explanation why. The result… a post a day for five days. But first, the interview:
So, as means of an introduction, tell us a bit about yourself:
I was born and bred in Los Angeles, wound up in art school, and then spent about five years working in the endless grinding motion graphics machine that runs there 24 hours a day. I’ve been living in Amsterdam for the last couple years now, working with advertising agencies as an art director, designer, and animator. Ah, and I’m Justin Blyth.
As you said when you took Them Thangs off-line, you were getting 20,000 hits a day and transmitting more data than CNN. Pretty amazing. How did Them Thangs get so big?
Yeah it’s really crazy, the whole thing happened in a totally organic and unplanned way. I was basically working in an office and had a fair amount of free time, essentially waiting on feedback from a client. As I would spend my day looking around on the web, I would just collect a lot of my favorite images into a folder. Eventually I opened a new document in Dreamweaver, dragged the 200 or so images into the document and uploaded it onto my site. It was really just a page for my friends and I to look at when we needed inspiration. I started posting the link on facebook, friends would post about it, I started updating it, and eventually it just became this big thing. I would have friends from all over the world telling me ‘dude, everyone is talking about your blog’. For me it was all pretty surprising, I never intended it to go that way.

The Selby has launched a book, like other prolific bloggers who’ve released books recently it’s a best of and a coffee table must for fans, mines in the post. To celebrate the London launch on the 21st April I thought I’d post one of my favourite Selby interiors, Erin Wasson’s Manhattan apartment. It’s your perfect open plan, bare brick, New York abode. Erin also happens to be one of my favourite models, which kills a few birds with one stone. More flics after the jump..
